The International Kabaddi Cup tournament dedicated to the 550th Prakash Purb celebrations of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, concluded here today at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sports Stadium. The Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sports Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Cooperation & Jails Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa graced the occasion. Despite severe cold wave and foggy conditions, people turned up in huge numbers. On the occasion, India emerged as Champions by beating Canada in the final.
Before the final match, Cabinet Ministers Mr. Bajwa, S. Randhawa and Rana Sodhi met the teams of India, Canada, USA and England and got the matches started. Renowned Punjabi singers Gurlez Akhtar and Jasbir Jassi regaled the audience with their soulful melodies. Famous anchor Satinder Satti and DPRO Patiala Ishwinder Singh Grewal conducted the stage ably.
Addressing the large gathering in the stadium, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi said that the International Kabaddi Cup was started from the sacred city of Sultanpur Lodhi and now the prestigious tournament has come to the conclusion at Dera Baba Nanak. He further said that the main aim of the tournament is to encourage the youth to keep away from drugs and connect them with the traditional sports. He also mentioned that Kabaddi is our mother game and the State Government is fully committed to prop up this sport through such tournaments. He also said that we are indeed fortunate that we have got the chance to celebrate the 550th Prakash Purb of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He called upon the players to inculcate sportsman spirit in their lives. He also assured that funds would not be a problem in the matter of the development and beautification of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium and for achieving this purpose, he would get the assessment done. The minister also thanked the people for turning up in such a large number to witness the matches.
On the occasion, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that the State Government has undertaken pathbreaking steps to bolster the sports in the State. He also announced Rs. 20 lakh for the development of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium. He further reiterated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to boost the Sports Culture in the State and attract the youth towards the sports.
In his address, Cabinet Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that he is thankful to the State Government for opening the Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and organizing a Kabaddi tournament of International repute at Dera Baba Nanak. He also expressed gratitude to the people for turning up in huge numbers. He further added that Mother Game Kabaddi has earned name for itself at the International fora and the Punjab Government and is also making continuous efforts to popularize the game amongst the youth.
Divulging more, S. Randhawa said that the Punjab Government would increase the sports budget for attracting youth towards sports. He further disclosed that Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji spent 18 years of his life at Dera Baba Nanak and gave the message of all human race as one. The minister further added that Dera Baba Nanak is the Gateway of India and the State Government is undertaking huge efforts for the development of Dera Baba Nanak. He also brought to the notice of the Sports Minister that an indoor stadium at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, Dera Baba Nanak is the need of the hour
S. Randhawa also said that it was his wish that Pakistani team reached Dera Baba Nanak via Kartarpur and had gone back to Pakistan after the match. He also divulged that this tournament is dedicated to the 550th Prakash Purb of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and it was successful in giving the message of Love, Universal Peace, Amity and Compassion. He also thanked all the teams reaching Dera Baba Nanak. The minister also lauded the top notch arrangements made by the District Administration led by the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Vipul Ujjwal.
