Governor of Punjab and Higher Education Minister gave degrees to researchers and students
Amritsar,- Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore said that the speed of technological revolution in the current era is taking place swiftly. I am sure that the technical knowledge and expertise; the theoretical and practical skills and the values that you have inherited from your prestigious institution will enable you to face the world with self-assurance and overcome the trials of life to achieve unprecedented goals. He was here to deliver the 46th Annual Convocation address in the Dasmesh Auditorium of the Guru Nanak Dev University.
Sh. Badnore appealed the students to follow the footsteps of their renowned predecessors and live up to the high standards expected of them. He said that this is an honoured moment not only for all the students, but also for their instructors, guides, faculty members and parents. He said that the University has made them what they are today and from now on they must live up to its name. He also wished all for a rewarding and professionally satisfying career, good health, and success in their endeavours.
On this occasion, two eminent personalities Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman & Managing Director MedantaTM-The MediCity and Mr Pankaj Kapur, an eminent actor, director, writer and poet were honoured with Doctor of Medicine- In the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Doctor of Philosophy - In the Faculty of Visual Arts & Performing Arts respectively. Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University and Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Minister of Higher Education awarded degrees to the students of the various faculties. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu welcomed the chief guest and other dignitaries. He also gave the detailed report about the achievements of the University.
Mr. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Minister of Cooperation and Jails; Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Minister of Water Resources, Mines & Geology, Housing and Urban Development; Mr. Rahul Bhandari, Principal Secretary Higher Education & Languages; Members of the Senate and the Syndicate of the University, Deans of the Faculties, distinguished faculty members, Principals of various colleges and eminent personalities were especially present on this occasion. Prof. Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar of the University coordinated the convocation. Vice-Chancellor also honoured chief guest and other guests with a memento on behalf of the University. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean, Academic Affairs presented the vote of thanks. Besides this, Mr. Tarsem Singh DC, MLA, Mr. Dharamvir Agnihotri MLA, Mr. Bhagwant Pal Singh Sachar, Mr. Shivdular Singh Dhillon, Deputy Comissionor, Mr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, Police Commissioner, Dr. H.P. Singh from Escort Hospital and a large number of eminent personalities , members of Senate and Syndicate of the University, Deans of the Faculties, Faculty Members, graduating students were present. As many as 169 Medals, 16 Memorial Medals, Lt. Sh. Sham Sunder Nayyar Memorial Trophy, 87 Ph.D., 09 M. Phil, 265 Master and 242 Bachelor Degrees were awarded to students from various faculties. Family members of Pankaj Kapur, Mrs. Suprya Pathak, eminent actress and his childrens were present on this occasion.
S. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said that today, the society is facing biggest challenge of degradation of moral and ethical values and at the same time narrow mindedness and intolerance are increasing. Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji always gave the message of universal brotherhood 'Ek Noor Te Sabh Jag Upjeya Kaun Bhalle Ko Mande'. He said that keeping this in mind, there is dire need to differentice between right and wrong. He said that we also need to identify true persons and encourage them for the cause of humanity. He said that we are all responsible citizen, so all needed to work together to create harmonious society. He also said that Punjabi language should be promoted and propogated by all of us starting from our own home. He said that Punjab Govt. has already initiated to display the sign board in Punjabi and as subject, Punjabi is compulsory till matriculation in all private and govt schools of Punjab. While congratulating the student , he appealed the students to follow the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and always follow the path of truth. He also congratulated Vice Chancellor Prof. Sandhu for overall development and achievements of the University.
Dr. Naresh Trehan said that though he travelled and lived in so many countries but the warmth he received from his home land is incredible. He said that he left America as that land lacks social and emotional values. Mr Pankaj Kapur said that inspite of spending good time in Mumbai, my soul and heart always beats for Punjab. He also shared their experiences of life with the students. Apart from offering 50 percent discount of University publications and Souivnor counter displayed in today's Convocation, a group photograph of Ph.D. Scholars was also organized as per the vision of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sandhu.
